About us

Our name is new, but our commitment to abortion access is not. Learn about our history as NAF Canada and our new mission as Abortion Care Canada.

Who we are

Our history

Abortion Care Canada is proud to offer high-quality, inclusive services to improve abortion access, education and care in Canada. A registered charity, we have been incorporated in Canada since 2007 and previously operated under the name National Abortion Federation (NAF) Canada. Our new name strives to encapsulate the complex processes and systems surrounding abortion which precipitate the need for wrap-around, nuanced and ever-growing care.

Our mission

Abortion Care Canada strives to enhance abortion access by offering high-quality professional and public education; cultivating a strong and connected abortion care community; and removing barriers through person-centered support and systemic change.

Our values

Person-centered

We value and promote autonomy for all abortion seekers. Our approach centres the lived experiences, needs and diverse identities of those we support and uplifts their ultimate and individual decision-making power.

Pro-abortion

Abortion has existed across cultures long before healthcare systems were formed. It is our privilege to continue this work with pride, and we recognize abortion as a common, needed, and morally neutral process.

Equity oriented

We know that truly accessible abortion care is only possible when we centre the true, lived experiences of those left out of and often harmed by healthcare systems.

Collaborative

We believe in fostering trust and collaboration across professions, organizations, governments, and community groups. We seek partner and community input to guide our services, resources, education, and advocacy efforts. Equitable abortion access is rooted in and sustained by community and collaboration.

Evidence based

We engage in our work using evidence-based practices and relevant research, while acknowledging that many lived experiences are not reflected in existing research. We commit to supporting the development of best practices which  centre the diversity of abortion seekers.

Empathy forward

We strive to be an organization which cares deeply for our staff, volunteers and community, valuing the diverse skill sets, experiences, needs, and lives of all involved. We commit to an empathy centered leadership approach and holding team wellness at the centre.
