Membership program

Together we can build and sustain a supported, connected, and innovative abortion care community across the country.

The abortion community in Canada has a long history of collaborating, coming together and supporting one another. Despite this, there continue to be challenges in connecting, combatting isolation, and ensuring all members are supported and receiving up to date clinical guidelines, innovative practices and relevant information. Abortion Care Canada’s membership program brings together providers, administrators, policy makers, counsellors, clinics, facilities, researchers, community workers, non-profits, and related individuals in order to build a strong, supported and connected abortion care community across the country.

Frequently asked questions

Who is membership open to?

Our membership program aims to create opportunities for those involved in abortion care to build community, learn, and innovate together. Membership is open to all individuals and organizations involved in the provision of abortion care including but not limited to: nurse practitioners, midwives, physicians, RNs, RPNs, LPNs, counselors, social (service) workers, doulas, administrators, researchers, policy makers, advocates, and students in related fields. Community of practice opportunities and other resources may be offered to specific categories of members as appropriate.

What is the process for a membership application?

Applying for a membership requires the submission of basic information, as well as information for security verification. At the time of application you will also be asked to pay the membership fee. Upon submission, our team will review your application and reach out to you with any questions. You will receive an email confirming your submission, and a follow-up email when it has been approved.

What information do I need to start an application?

Individuals applying for membership will be asked for information on their involvement in abortion care, services offered, current relationship to Abortion Care Canada, security information, clinic or other associations, and for general contact information.

Organizations applying for membership will be asked the same questions as individuals, with added information about the nature of the organization, as well as being asked to complete an service equity questionnaire. Organizations will also have the opportunity to identify their additional members at the time of application, however this can also be done later.

Why do you ask for security verification information?

While we cannot fully guarantee the safety and confidentiality of our curated spaces, we endeavor to verify that all members are actively involved in the provision of abortion care. Security measures in our membership and other programs are taken as an extreme precaution, and in an effort to ensure members are in the presence of supportive peers. If you have any questions or concerns about our security procedures, please let us know.

I’m applying as an organization. Do I also need to apply as an individual?

When you register your organization as the primary contact, you will also be asked to fill out your personal application information. Once your organization is approved, your individual application is also approved, as are the additional members you included at the time of registration (if you chose to assign them at that time). If you opted to wait to assign your members, you are able to do so in your membership portal after your organization has been approved.
